Ipswich have been in fine form early in the new campaign and they top the League One table with 21 points to their name after nine games played, hosting Tranmere in hope they can build on the tally and the gap behind them – with Coventry breathing down their necks and sitting three points behind.
Tractor Boys have bagged six wins and draw in their last seven outings across competitions, narrowly snatching points on trips to MK Dons (0-1) and Gillingham (0-1) in their last two outings – taking the lead rather early and keeping hold of it. They’ve been very solid at the back and will now want more of the same.
Tranmere, on the other hand, ended a streak of five games without a win as they beat Burton Albion (2-1) on Saturday, completing a very late comeback through goals from Banks and Payne to finally capitalize on the goals scored in front of the crowd at Prenton Park.
Rovers have struggled to impress in the final third when away from home, though, and this could be more worrying. They’ve failed to find the net on three of their four trips this term and saw three losses, only snatching a 1-1 draw at Rotherham along the way – where Payne also found a stoppage time equalizer.
