Ipswich vs Sunderland Match Preview
Sunderland have seen a troubled start as Oxford snatched a point at Stadium of Light, where the visitors bagged an early opener and a penalty converted by Lynden Gooch in the second half only saved a point. They will now need more at Portman Road and Jack Ross has to be looking for cures.
Indeed, Black Cats have seemed shaky at the back and the attacking line seldom felt dangerous, as they struggled to shake off the feeling of unconvincing displays late in their pre-season. They’ve failed to find the net and saw a draw against Benfica II (0-0) as well as losses to Belenenses (1-0) and Heerenveen (0-1).
Ipswich have, on the other hand, kicked it off with a 0-1 win at Burton Albion as Luke Garbutt found an early opener and they kept hold of it at Pirelli Stadium. They’ve been very solid at the back and with just one goal conceded in four outings, it feels Paul Lambert’s men will be a tough nut to break once again.
Tractor Boys have seen struggles to retain great consistency at home ground and this has been a major factor to their relegation, as they only ended an eight-game winless streak shocking Leeds United (3-2) back in May. They will now hope for more, though, and we expect them very motivated.
We will now back Ipswich to prove a tough nut but we don’t see them turning the contest their way, as we now stick our necks out for a Draw priced at 12/5 with bet365 – which does come off as value at this point.
We feel this will be a narrow contest with few goals and with that in mind, we’re also backing Under 2.5 Goals FT at 7/10 with Coral. We’ve seen two or fewer goals in both sides’ last three outings and this feels like a generous banker bet at this point.
