Ipswich vs Gillingham Match Preview
Ipswich have been in fine form early in the new campaign and they now host Gillingham for their EFL Trophy clash on the back of a four-match winning streak, which sees them sitting at the top of the League One table with a four-point gap behind them and a game in hand to the 2nd placed Wycombe.
Tractor Boys snatched a win at Priestfield in September with a single goal from Vincent-Young and built on the success with a more convincing home win over Tranmere (4-1) in late September and a 0-1 win at Fleetwood on Saturday. They will now hope for more of the same and we feel they’re in a much better place at this point.
Still, Gillingham ended their three-match winless streak with a weekend win over Southend (3-1), where they finally found their form in the final third as Alfie Jones, Stuart O’Keefe, and Brandon Hanlan all made it on the scoresheet. Steve Evans’ men have had more trouble turning clashes their way on the road and the fact they’re still searching for their first away win this term will be more worrying.
Gills have seen a thrashing 3-0 loss at Oxford beforehand, where a troubled first half saw them out of the game at the Kassam Stadium with just 34’ minutes on the clock. They’ve conceded six goals on their last three trips and putting on a more solid display at the back will be a crucial task here.
We don’t see them making it happen, though, and we’ll now rather back Ipswich to make it two out of two in Southern Group A – where a Home win feels like buying money for old rope at 4/7 with Ladbrokes and caught the eye of many big hitters already.
We do feel we’re in for a more exciting head-to-head clash this time around, though, and we’ll be going for goals! Over 2.5 Goals FT looks like a solid approach to the fixture and can be backed at 8/11 with William Hill.
