Iceland vs Canada Match Preview
Canada beat Barbados at Championship Soccer Stadium at OC Great Park twice over the past seven days, as the attacking line led by Akindele, Brym, and Tosaint Ricketts performed well and bagged eight goals. They now meet Iceland at the same ground and hope to build on such performances despite more of a challenge expected.
Canucks conceded on both occasions but moved forward with pace and really felt in control of the games on both occasions, bouncing from a disappointing end of 2019 – where they suffered a 4-1 loss in the United States and fell just short of CONCACAF Nations League Play-offs.
Iceland finished the EURO 2020 Qualifiers campaign strong but this wasn’t enough for a top 2 spot in Group H, as they were left four points behind with a goalless draw in Turkey and the win over Moldova (1-2) could hardly have meant much. They will now be without many of their major stars, which could mean trouble as they look for a pick-me-up.
Strakarnir Okkar will be led by AIK’s Kolbeinn Sigborsson and he’ll now want to lead the line with an obvious need to find his best form. They have been tough defensively and Kari Arnason will want to be that pillar at the back once again but with a rotated line-up, we do question their stability.
We will thus stick our necks out for Canada to hold off the European rivals and we’ll go for a Draw, which would be the sides’ third draw in four head-to-head clashes. Iceland will be motivated to impress with new players getting chances but could be in for a tougher task than some would suggest.
We do hope to see goals and with an outlook to an exciting contest in Irvine, California, we’re also going for a Yes on Both teams to score. Both have been scoring and conceding quite regularly in their last outings, which does feel like further evidence for another thriller in the making.
