Huddersfield vs Leicester Match Preview
Huddersfield Town are set to return to the Championship next season. The Terriers have already had their relegation to the second tier confirmed this season as they have struggled to reach the levels they managed last year in shocking everybody in the league to remain in the top tier. This time around they’ve struggled in all areas of the pitch, particularly in attack, and have amassed just 14 points from their 32 games thus far.
Having removed David Wagner and replaced him with German compatriot Jan Siewert, the West Yorkshire outfit can now look forward to rebuilding and looking at earning promotion back to the top tier next season. That preparation is always going to be difficult against the tough opponents of the Premier League though and after four consecutive defeats the home win does seem unlikely here at odds of 4/1 with William Hill.
It’s been a rather average season for the Leicester City fans. Although they are never likely to challenge for major honours at the top of the table like they did in that infamous title-winning campaign, the fans will be expecting to challenge for a top eight spot and to play with a certain style. Under Claude Puel, patience eventually ran thin and the Frenchman was dismissed and replaced by Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers.
Back in England after a spell north of the border at Celtic Park, the former Liverpool boss has enjoyed a fine start to life in the hotseat. Although he wasn’t in the dugout for the win over Brighton & Hove Albion, the Foxes have won four of their last five Premier League games since appointing the Northern Irish boss. You can back them to make it five from six with three points on the road here at 4/6 with PaddyPower.
Huddersfield’s struggles in front of goal this season have been well documented and a lack of goals continues to plague the Terriers in these closing stages of the campaign. Having failed to score in three of their last four games, it’s clear these issues are still causing problems for Jan Siewert and Leicester, fresh from their first clean sheet under Rodgers in the win over Bournemouth last weekend, should take full advantage to win to nil again at 9/5 with PaddyPower.
I successfully tipped up Jamie Vardy to score in that win over Bournemouth and I’m backing him for another here. The 32 year old endured a frustrating relationship with former boss Claude Puel but appears to have found a new lease of life since Brendan Rodgers’ arrival at the King Power Stadium, scoring five times in his last five games to bring his league tally to 13 goals for the season. We’re backing him to get on the scoresheet here at 6/5 with Bet365.
