Netherlands Women vs Japan Women Predictions

The Netherlands might be a good dark horse bet for the Women’s World Cup this summer. The European side don’t have the best record in this competition and their qualification for the tournament in Canada four years ago marked their first ever venture into the finals, yet they continue to improve year on year and they’re enjoying a terrific time at this summer’s World Cup in France so far.

De Oranje won all three of their group stage games, finishing atop the group after victories over New Zealand, Cameroon and Canada and they now take on Japan, the team that dumped them out of their only previous World Cup appearance in the Round of 16 stage four years ago. This time round however, the European side are expected to take revenge, hence odds of 10/11 on them to win this one with Spreadex.

Japan have been one of the best teams in the women’s game in the last decade or so. With so much focus on the women’s game in the Asian country, it’s no surprise that Nadeshiko Japan have reached the last two finals of this competition, winning one and losing one and they’ve also won the last two AFC Women’s Asian Cup tournaments, although more silverware this summer does seem unlikely.

A difficult time in the group stages saw Asako Takakura’s side pick up just one win and one draw from their three fixtures meaning that they were able to qualify alongside England although things could have turned out very differently had Scotland managed to hold onto their lead over Argentina in their final group stage game. Can Japan return to some better form to win this knock-out fixture at 10/3 with PaddyPower.

We’re backing a low-scoring game here. Japan struggled to create chances in the group stages and scored their only two goals in a narrow win over Scotland, drawing blanks versus both England and Argentina. The Netherlands were more proficient in attack, scoring six times in three games, but they did only concede twice and they now come up against a stronger Japanese defence so under 2.5 goals looks good to us at 8/11 with Bet365.

The Dutch team should just about have enough quality to get through this game. Oranje have clearly continued to improve quickly over the last few years, whilst this Japan side doesn’t have the same quality that it did four years ago in winning a tie between these two sides in the second round. It will be a nervy, low-scoring game, but we’re backing the Netherlands to sneak a narrow 1-0 win at 11/2 with Unibet.
