Hibernian vs St Mirren Match Preview
Hibernian have been rather solid through the pre-season and the early League Cup campaign, as they connected a six-match winning streak through July and only saw it ended in a friendly against Newcastle United (1-3) on Tuesday. They now host St Mirren hoping to keep up their team spirits and we expect Paul Heckingbottom’s men very motivated to do so.
Hibs have seen a very busy summer with seven arrivals and 11 departures, as Heckingbottom overhauled the outfit in search of a side to suit his attacking approach. They’ve been scoring numbers of goals along the way and found the net eight times in last four outings, with clean sheets on all of the last three League Cup occasions.
St Mirren obviously don’t have the same sort of depth in quality and they’ve hardly had the summer business to boast either, where they only brought two fresh faces and don’t really feel like a much better outfit – having only just secured the top-flight survival last term.
Buddies have struggled against much less of opposition as they beat Edinburgh City (1-0) with a last-gasp penalty kick converted by new singing Djorkaeff as well as shootouts against East Kilbride (where they lost the bonus point after a goalless draw) and Albion Rovers (where they won it after a similar deadlock).
We thus feel their goalscoring woes will prove costly at Easter Road and we’ll back Hibernian to capitalize with a Home win to Nil, which comes at 27/20 with Coral and seems like great value at this point.
We have seen St Mirren solid at the back, though, and going for Under 2.5 Goals FT now seems like a solid approach to the fixture at 11/10 with Unibet. We should be in for a comfortable win but this still feels like value for those keeping faith Hibs will keep a clean sheet on the day.
