Just a couple of games ago, things were going very well for Ajax at the top of the Eredivisie. They had a six point cushion over AZ Alkmaar, their nearest challengers, and looked set to cruise to another title. They have lost their last two games, while Alkmaar have won theirs, so things are level and it is very much game on in the title race. This is a huge game against Heerenveen, one they are capable of winning but one where they are going to have to perform much better if they want all three points.

Heerenveen have been performing at the same level all season, they haven’t been pulling up any trees but have found a way to pick up wins and get points on the board. They’ve been involved in some high scoring games recently, defensive issues remain but they do have the ability to score.
