Germany Women vs Nigeria Women Predictions

Germany are one of the most decorated international teams in women’s football. Die Nationalelf have never failed to make it as far as the Quarter Final stage at the World Cup and indeed they managed to win back-to-back editions of the tournament in 2003 and 2007 and this year, in France, they’ll feel that they have every chance of adding to those two wins despite strong competition from the likes of France and the USA.

It was a confident and comfortable performance from Martina Voss-Tecklenburg’s side in the group stages as they secured maximum points from their three fixtures against China, Spain and South Africa without conceding a goal. Can they continue that momentum into the knock-out stages by dumping Nigeria out of the competition as expected with a win here in Grenoble at odds of 1/6 with Bet365.

Nigeria are one of the stronger African teams in Women’s football and they regularly manage to reach the finals of the competition but rarely manage to make it beyond the group stages. In fact, the Super Falcons have made it to all eight editions of the tournament so far but this is only the second time that they have made it out of the group stages and it has required a fair bit of luck on their part to manage it this time around.

A 2-0 victory over the Korea Republic turned out to be the only victory Thomas Dennerby’s team would pick up in the group stages as they lost their other matches against European sides Norway and France. Luckily for them, changes in the rules meant that the four best third-placed finishes went through. In reality, a lack of quality showed in those two defeats and a victory here would be a real shock at 15/1 with Unibet.

We’re expecting the former winners to have too much quality for their opponents in this fixture. Whilst there’s no value in the ‘to win to nil’ market as you might expect us to back after die Nationalelf’s three clean sheets in the group stages, there is value in backing the goals for Germany here and after that 4-0 win over South Africa to end the group stage, we fancy them to win this one with a two goal handicap at 13/10 with 888sport.

Sara Dabritz may not be the most prolific player in this Germany squad, but she was in fine form in the group stages to score in the wins over South Africa and Spain. The PSG midfielder now has 12 international goals to her name and after that duo of strikes in her last two outings we’re backing her for another in this one at 11/4 with Bet365.
