Germany vs Serbia Match Preview
Germany have endured a difficult last twelve months. Having entered the summer’s World Cup in Russia as the existing holders and with a reputation as one of the favourites to lift the trophy again, die Mannschaft suffered the ignominy of being knocked out in the group stages after defeats to Mexico and South Korea saw them fail to quality with El Tricolor heading through alongside Sweden, who the Germans did actually manage to beat thanks to a last gasp Toni Kroos strike.
Despite picking up a couple of friendly victories over Peru and Russia since that disappointment at the World Cup, in the UEFA Nations League Joachim Low’s side continued to struggle, picking up just two points from four fixtures against France and the Netherlands in finishing bottom of their group and being relegated to the second tier for the next tournament. You can back them to bounce back with a morale-boosting win here at 42/100 with William Hill.
Serbia, like Germany, failed to go beyond the first hurdle at last summer’s World Cup. Mladen Krstajic’s men kicked off in the best possible way with a hard-fought victory over Costa Rica but after that they fell to defeats to both Brazil and Switzerland to be dumped out of the competition in the group stages but given that it was only the second time the European nation has qualified for a World Cup it will be considered vital experience as they go in search of qualification to the European Championships for the first time.
Unlike Germany however, form since the World Cup has been very strong. Orlovi have gone six games unbeaten so far, with all of those games being competitive fixtures in their slightly larger UEFA Nations League group where they finished top above Romania, Montenegro and Lithuania without losing a fixture. Can they continue that strong form and pull off a famous win against a footballing superpower in Germany at odds of Bet365?
Given Germany’s recent struggles for consistent form and their lack of a reaction on the pitch from that devastating World Cup display we can see value in backing Serbia here. The two teams have met only once in a competitive fixture before but Orlovi were able to win that game at the 2010 World Cup and indeed they have been in far better form than their Wednesday evening opponents on the back of a six game unbeaten. 2/1 for the away win or draw double chance get looks good to us with Bet365.
Aleksandar Mitrovic may not be in his most prolific form as the spearhead of the Fulham attack at the moment but he continues to be the key man for his country and his international form this season has been typically impressive with six goals in six appearances taking his tally up to 23 goals in 46 caps. He’s our anytime scorer pick in this fixture at odds of 29/10 with Unibet.
