Germany Under-21 vs Denmark Under-21 Match Preview

Lightning has struck in the same place three times in five years as Germany and Denmark are again pooled together for the group stage of the European Under-21 Championship.

In both 2015 and 2017, Germany won 3-0 against the Danes and on the latter occasion they went all the way to lifting the trophy for the second time, the first being in 2009.

Four years ago, this duo both qualified for the semi-finals with Denmark topping the group table despite their emphatic defeat to the Germans. The last four remains the furthest Denmark have ever gone in this competition, also having reached that stage in 1992.

Germany are among the ‘big five’ in the betting this time around along with Spain, England, France and hosts Italy. Stefan Kuntz, who led them to the 2017 title in Poland, remains in charge and his squad includes Borussia Dortmund midfielder Mahmoud Dahoud, Manchester City forward Lukas Nmecha and Bayer Leverkusen defender Jonathan Tah.

Denmark are unbeaten in four friendly matches this year and will be hoping for big things from free-scoring Genk striker Marcus Ingvartsen and Dynamo Kiev’s Mikkel Duelund.

There is little doubt the Germany squad contains the greater proven quality and they are backed to again beat Denmark comfortably, although perhaps by not quite such an emphatic margin this time around.
