Germany U21 vs Romania U21 Predictions
Germany are always one of the strongest footballing nations in Europe with their penchant for producing world class talent well documented over the years and well rewarded with a host of major international honours. Their youth sides have a decent record too unsurprisingly and at this tournament in Italy they are looking to retain the UEFA Under 21 Championship having lifted the trophy in Poland two years ago.
After kicking off the tournament with a comfortable 3-1 win over Denmark, die Mannschaft produced a stunning performance in their second fixture to hammer a relatively strong Serbian outfit by an embarrassing 6-1 scoreline. With those victories all but confirming their route through, a 1-1 draw in the final game against Austria was of little consequence to Stefan Kuntz’s side. Can the pre-tournament favourites progress to the final with a win here at 9/20 with Bet365.
Romania have surprised everybody at this tournament so far. In over 20 previous editions of the tournament, Tricolorii buni had only managed to qualify on one occasion and never managed to make it as far as the final four stage. What’s more, the first team haven’t exactly been the most successful in recent years, with their only two major international tournament performances since 2000 ending in group stage exits.
And yet Cosmin Contra’s young charges find themselves competing in the final four of this particular tournament after some stylish performances in the group stages. A 4-1 thumping of a handy Croatia side was followed up with a thrilling 4-2 victory over Aidy Boothroyd’s England and those six points meant that a 0-0 draw in the final game against France was enough to secure a route through to this semi-final, which they are priced at 5/1 to win with Ladbrokes.
I’m backing the goals here. Romania were in terrific form in those first two group stages in front of goal, smashing in no fewer than eight goals in victories over Croatia and England and although they drew a blank against France, that was in a game in which a draw was enough to send them through. Germany should still have the quality to win this one, but they are yet to keep a clean sheet so die Mannschaft to win and BTTS at 21/10 with Bet365 looks like a good bet to us.
I successfully backed Germany’s Luca Waldschmidt to get on the scoresheet in Germany’s final group stage game. The Freiburg forward scored nine goals in the Bundesliga this season and he has scored no fewer than five goals in just three appearances at this competition so far this summer, including a hat-trick in the 6-1 win over Serbia. We’re backing the 23 year old for another goal in this clash at 7/5 with Bet365.
