Only two-and-a-half months after they took eventual champions Chelsea to a penalty shootout in the semi-finals, Eintracht Frankfurt are back on the Europa League trail again.

The German club were the surprise package of last season’s competition, showing they meant business by winning all six of their group matches with 17 goals scored and then eliminating Shakhtar Donetsk, Inter Milan and Benfica in the knockout stage.

Eintracht drew both legs of their semi-final 1-1 against Chelsea despite being clear second best each time, and it was two goals from their striker sensation Luka Jovic that kept them in with a chance right up to the last possible moment at Stamford Bridge.

Since then, however, the Eagles have sold Jovic and fellow marksman Sebastian Haller to Real Madrid and West Ham respectively for a combined £90million and spent less than a third of that sum on new players, most notably midfield duo Djibril Sow and Dominik Kohr.

Their opponents Flora Tallinn pulled off an upset in the first qualifying round when, for only the second time in their 26-year European history, they won a tie – and did so against a far from hopeless opponent in Serbian club Radnicki Nis.

However, this is another big step up for the Estonian side and even though this is Eintracht’s first competitive game of the season, and they have lost the firepower of Jovic and Haller, they should still be comfortably too good for Flora in both legs of the tie.
