Fleetwood vs Sunderland Match Preview
Bristol Rovers snatched a point at Highbury Stadium over the weekend but Fleetwood showed off as a tough side to beat once again and they host Sunderland on New Year’s Day surely looking to build on such performances – which a four-match unbeaten streak now behind them.
Trawlermen have seen three draws along the way and will be happy with the first clean sheet along the way, if nothing else. They have bagged four wins and two draws in their last six home outings and we’ve seen them regularly scoring and conceding goals in the process, which still promises an exciting occasion at Highbury.
Sunderland sit four points behind the 8th placed rivals and will be desperate to close the gap with an upset now, having finally ended a lengthy losing streak on the road as Chris Maguire’s goal just after the hour mark proved enough for all three points at Doncaster (1-2). They struggled for points beforehand and Phil Parkinson will want to take confidence from it.
Black Cats have seen a nine-match winless streak beforehand and defensive slip-ups will be a worry on the visitors’ minds once again. They conceded at least a goal on all of their last eight trips and doing more in Fleetwood will be crucial, with an obvious need to get the new year underway in the best way possible.
We don’t see them making it happen, though, and we’ll now rather stick with Fleetwood to show off in front of the home fans once again. We will go for a Home win here, which comes at 6/5 with William Hill and looks like the best approach to the fixture.
Indeed, Sunderland have struggled to snatch points on the road but we still feel they’ll have their say. We thus hope to see goals on both ends and we’re going for a Yes on Both teams to score at 19/20 with bet365, which has caught the eye of many in the know already.
