Flamengo vs Al-Hilal Match Preview
Al-Hilal narrowly beat ES Tunis (1-0) on Saturday as Bafetimbi Gomis made an immediate impact after coming on and made all the difference with a 73’ goal, which was his eighth goal in nine appearances across competitions since October. They now take on much more of a challenge as they meet Copa Libertadores champions Flamengo, hoping to prove their worth at Khalifa International Stadium.
Blue Waves haven’t seen a very busy schedule but managed to extend a five-match winning streak since early November, bagging two comfortable wins in King’s Cup and beating Urawa Reds (3-0 on aggregate) in AFC Champions League. Razvan Lucescu’s experience and a modern setup to their lineup, topped by Giovinco’s return to the pitch, will certainly pose a serious threat.
Jorge Jesus will be well-aware of the threat as he was in charge of the side as far back as January 2019 which could have an impact here. Flamengo connected five wins in a row since mid-November too but saw the streak ended by Santos in a 4-0 thrashing with a rotated lineup at Urbano Caldeira Stadium. They have had a week off and we’ll surely see them reinvigorated in search of silverware.
Mengao will surely put on high pressure from the first whistle and this could make it hard for Al-Hilal to get the ball forward, despite a great full-back duo Alburayk and Alshahrani. We’ve seen Jorge Jesus’ men capitalizing on such an approach and bagging 15 goals in four outings ahead of the trip to Santos, which does promise an exciting contest now.
We will back Flamengo to turn it their way but we don’t feel it will be easy, as Al-Hilal certainly hold attacking potential as well. We thus hope to see goals on both ends and go for Flamengo to win and a Yes on Both teams to score, which comes at 12/5 with bet365.
With that in mind, we’re making a case for a high-scoring occasion in Doha and we’ll now also back Over 2.5 Goals FT, which has been rated a banker bet at 4/6 with William Hill despite Al-Hilal’s rather tough contest against ES Tunis over the weekend.
