A game between the bottom two clubs in any division isn’t usually an inspiring one to watch, but this should be different on Wednesday night. These two teams have the quality to be well clear of the relegation zone, and it is only through a bit of misfortune that they are in the position they find themselves.

Fiorentina are the bottom club with two points from four games. They are yet to win, although have recorded two draws and in those they have done pretty well. It is more a case of how the fixture list has dropped for them, rather than their poor play, that has caused them to be at the foot of the table. They have drawn at home to Juventus and away with Atalanta over the past two weeks, with that kind of form it is only a matter of time before their league position improves.

Sampdoria are another team who shouldn’t be in the position they are in, but they did pick up a win at home to Torino over the weekend to climb above Fiorentina. While they too can blame the fixture list a little for their defeats, with tough early games against Napoli and Lazio, their 4-1 defeat at Sassuolo shows there is plenty of work needed here.

With that in mind, and with the form that Fiorentina have been showing recently, this looks to be the game in which they will finally get off the mark. They have shown more in their recent draws that Sampdoria have in any of their games including the win they picked up at the weekend, and it looks to us like the Fiorentina fans will finally be able to go home from this one knowing their team has three points in the bag.
