Fiorentina are in their best form of the season, but even that may not be enough to prevent defeat against an Inter Milan side going well in the chase for a Serie A top-four place.

The Viola are highly unlikely to qualify for next season’s Champions League themselves, but at least they have won five of their last eight games and drawn the other three with the main achievement having been to reach the Coppa Italia semi-finals.

But apart from a couple of dodgy patches, in early December and a few weeks ago, Inter have been largely reliable this term and defensively they are back on song – even though goals have been harder to come by since they fell out with Mauro Icardi over a contract dispute.

Victories over Parma and Sampdoria in their last two Serie A games have put Inter clear in third position ahead of a tight chasing pack and they can feel confident of contesting the Champions League again next season – they dropped into the Europa League knockout stage this time around after finishing third in their group.

This is expected to be a tight game as six of Inter’s last eight away matches have finished 1-0 (three wins and three defeats) and Luciano Spalletti’s side are expected to have just enough quality to snatch victory.
