Everton vs Newcastle United Match Preview
Everton’s anticipated revival under Carlo Ancelotti has not really got going properly yet, but they are backed for another of their regular home wins against Newcastle.
The Toffees’ biggest strength is their home form and that has been particularly apparent since Ancelotti took charge just before Christmas, with back-to-back 1-0 victories over Burnley and Brighton maintaining the unbeaten Goodison Park run since Marco Silva was sacked.
It’s their away results that have stopped Everton from climbing into the upper half of the Premier League table and more points were dropped at the weekend in a 1-1 draw at West Ham that was a fair outcome on the balance of play.
Newcastle also looked like drawing, despite being completely outplayed at home to Chelsea, only they did not collect a point…they actually ended up getting all three when Isaac Hayden’s face connected with a free-kick to divert the ball past Kepa Arrizabalaga deep in stoppage time for the only goal of the match.
The Magpies will understandably be cock-a-hoop after that result, which put them level on points with Everton just below halfway in the table.
But having achieved one of only two league victories away from home this season 2-1 on Tyneside between Christmas and New Year, Ancelotti’s side are fancied to complete the double over Newcastle back at their Merseyside base albeit by a similarly narrow margin.
