Everton vs Crystal Palace Match Preview
Crystal Palace are starting to look over their shoulders at the Premier League relegation zone and need to snap a six-match winless run as soon as possible to avoid getting into trouble.
Roy Hodgson suddenly finds himself as favourite to be the next top-flight manager to leave his job, not only due to his side’s poor run of form but also Palace’s failure to deliver the goods in the transfer market.
The former England boss this week referred to the fact he is having to work with a group of players he largely “inherited” upon his appointment nearly two-and-a-half years ago and with things seemingly going stale at Selhurst Park, you wonder if the 72-year-old is starting to have had enough after a remarkable 44 years as a manager.
A deadline-day move for Jarrod Bowen broke down when the Hull City forward joined West Ham instead and again the Eagles drew a goalscoring blank last weekend, losing 1-0 at home to Sheffield United which meant they have now bulged the net the fewest times in the Premier League this term.
While that was happening, Everton were reversing a crisis of their own as they turned a 2-0 deficit at Watford into a 3-2 victory that lifted them into the top half of the table.
The Toffees have been solid at home under Carlo Ancelotti – in fairness, they usually are whoever their manager is – and it is difficult to make a case for Palace turning around their worrying form here.
