Everton were hoping to play with a more attractive style under the guidance of Marco Silva this year after the Portuguese boss eventually moved to the club following his sacking at Watford last season. Although at times Silva’s men have shown glimpses of potential, the consistency in results have not been there and after an FA Cup defeat at the hands of Championship outfit Millwall last weekend, fans are starting to grow a little frustrated with the lack of progress.

The Toffees did at least bounce back to winning ways with a hard-fought win away at Huddersfield Town in midweek despite going down to ten men after a red card for left-back Lucas Digne. Those three points leave the Merseysiders in eighth place in the table with a spot in European football next season seeming less and less likely as the gap between the top six and the rest of the league starts to open up. Wolverhampton Wanderers are really enjoying life back in the Premier League after an absence in the Championship. With owners pumping cash into the club and a healthy relationship with Portuguese agent Jorge Mendes seeing plenty of talented players heading to Molineux, the club have not only managed to return to the top tier by winning the second tier last season but they now look set to finish in the top half at the first time of asking on their return.

Although they perhaps lack the consistency, like Everton, to push on and challenge the top six in the table, Nuno Espirito Santo’s men have taken the step up with ease and come into this game on the back of wins over Leicester City and West Ham United in their last two Premier League matches, sandwiched by a 2-2 draw with League One Shrewsbury Town in the FA Cup.
