Espanyol vs Villarreal Match Preview
Espanyol have struggled for points early in the new campaign and sit in the relegation zone after eight games played, now hosting Villarreal for their Sunday’s clash desperate to end a four-match winless streak (only interrupted with Europa League success at CSKA Moscow) and build on a five-point tally.
RCDE earned four points in two Group H Europa League outings but just haven’t been able to impress in La Liga, struggling defensively and seeing it prove costly. They conceded nine goals in four league outings since early September and picking it up will be crucial if they’re to escape the bottom of the table here.
Villarreal, on the other end, sit just two points behind the league’s top 6 but they have seen woes of their own lately. They’ve suffered narrow losses at Barcelona (2-1) and Osasuna (2-1) in their last two outings and while Javi Calleja’s men enjoyed a better spell at home ground, this will be just as worrying ahead of the trip to Cornella de Llobregat.
Yellow Submarine have only beaten struggling Leganes (0-3) in four away games this term and causing a similar upset now will be a tougher task we feel, despite Espanyol’s woes – which, truth be told, were more obvious on the road. Still, the visitors boast a good goalscoring tally and have been scoring goals on the regular, promising a great challenge.
We do see Espanyol up to the task, though, and we’ll now stick our necks out for them to earn their first home win this term – which comes at an eye-catching 2/1 with Paddy Power and has already caught the eye of many value seekers.
However, we expect a great contest and we hope to see goals too, as we go for Over 2.5 Goals FT which could prove the best approach to the fixture at 10/11 with William Hill. We have seen both sides scoring and conceding on the regular recently and this feels like great evidence for such a bet.
