Espanyol vs Barcelona Match Preview
Barcelona take on a short trip to Cornella de Llobregat for their clash at Espanyol on Saturday evening looking to start the year in a good mood and build on a two-point gap behind them, made through a convincing 4-1 win over Alaves where Antoine Griezmann, Arturo Vidal, Leo Messi, and Luis Suarez all made it on the scoresheet.
Blaugrana thus capitalized on Real Madrid’s slip-up and they’ll now want to keep hold of the advantage, boasting great goalscoring records and impressing across competitions despite slip-ups at the back – which meant eight goals conceded in their last eight outings. Ernesto Valverde will surely want more of the same and we expect his men very motivated to deliver.
Espanyol have, on the other hand, struggled for points and sit rock-bottomed with just ten to their name after 18 outings. They have still made it to Europa League knockout stages as Group H table-toppers and Wu Lei’s brace at Lleida Esportiu meant a ticket to Copa del Rey 2nd Round, but it’s fair to say Pablo Machin’s men have a lot to prove.
RCDE have seen comfortable losses to Osasuna (2-4), Real Madrid (2-0), and Leganes (2-0) since early December and only held Betis to a thriller 2-2 draw at this ground along the way. They have been scoring more goals here lately but still struggles to capitalize, which could just be the case on the day as well.
We will thus stick with Barcelona to turn an exciting contest their way here and we’ll go for an Away win & Over 2.5 Goals FT, which comes at 10/11 with Paddy Power and looks like great value seeing Blaugrana enjoy a great goalscoring record of recent too.
We don’t see the visitors keeping a clean sheet, though, and we’re now backing a Yes on Both teams to score at 7/10 with William Hill. We’ve seen goals on both ends in just one of their last eight clashes but neither of them felt confident at the back lately, which has us going for it now.
