Espanyol vs Atletico Madrid Match Preview
Atletico Madrid picked it up and bagged three wins and a draw in their last four outings despite a tough schedule since early February, travelling to Cornella de Llobregat for their Matchday 26 clash at Espanyol in hope they can build on such performances and snatch all-important points on Sunday afternoon.
All three wins came in front of the home fans, though, as Atleti beat Granada (1-0), Liverpool (1-0), and Villarreal (3-1) while being held to a thriller 2-2 draw at Valencia along the way. They have a lot yet to prove on the road, only ending a streak of four losses in Valencia, and Diego Simeone will want to do so at RCDE Stadium.
Espanyol sit rock-bottomed and have just 19 points to their name after 25 outings. They do come into the match on the back of a 3-2 Europa League win over Wolves but it only came as a consolation as Abelardo and his men failed to overturn the contest after a 4-0 thrashing at Molineux.
RCDE have still picked it up at this ground and we’ve also seen them beat Mallorca (1-0) while holding Betis (2-2), Barcelona (2-2), and Athletic Bilbao (1-1) to draws since mid-December. They’ll now be desperate to build on such records and we feel they’ll prove themselves as a very tough nut to crack indeed.
We will thus stick with Espanyol to secure at least a point on the day and we’ll go for an enticing Double Chance – Home win or Draw at 4/5 with William Hill, which seems like great value seeing Atleti’s struggles on the road lately.
We do feel they’ll have to score goals if they’re to do so, which also has us backing a Yes on Both teams to score at 5/4 with Paddy Power. We’ve seen them score and concede goals in four of the last five outings at this ground, which feels like evidence for such a bet as well.
