Egypt vs Guinea Match Preview
Africa Cup of Nations favourites and hosts Egypt play the second of their two warm-up friendly matches for the tournament against a Guinea side who will also be confident of reaching the knockout stage.
Having been moved from its traditional January date to the summer to fall into line with the European Championship and Copa America, the Africa Cup of Nations begins next Friday when Egypt take on Zimbabwe.
Egypt have stepped in at late notice to stage the tournament after title-holders Cameroon were stripped of the hosting rights, and they have been installed as favourites to increase their record number of victories in the tournament to eight – the most recent occurring in 2010.
Runners-up two years ago, Egypt, coached by former Atletico Madrid and Mexico manager Javier Aguirre, of course have Liverpool forward Mo Salah as their talisman and they also contested a warm-up match against Tanzania on Thursday (result not known at the time of writing).
Guinea, captained by Salah’s fellow Champions League winner with Liverpool, Naby Keita, will expect to join Nigeria in advancing from an Africa Cup of Nations pool that also contains Madagascar and Burundi.
As the stats above outline, there has generally been plenty of goals when these countries have met previously and that may well be the case again – with Egypt coming out on top.
