Dunfermline vs Dundee Match Preview
Dundee begin their quest to bounce straight back up to the Scottish Premiership with their football operation now headed by two men at opposite ends of the experience spectrum – James McPake and Gordon Strachan.
The Dark Blues were relegated last season, finishing 11 points adrift at the bottom of the table with manager Jim McIntyre sacked and 35-year-old McPake, who only retired from playing last year, appointed as his replacement.
McPake being such a rookie, albeit with a vastly experienced assistant in Jimmy Nicholl, it made sense for Dundee to seek an experienced Technical Director and they have found one in Strachan, who had been out of the game since leaving the Scotland job in October 2017 and has now returned to his very first club.
In their League Cup group matches this term, Dundee have remained unbeaten with two wins and two draws and, most notably, four clean sheets as they topped their table comfortably to advance to the last 16.
Dunfermline joined them, also by winning their group, but did so in somewhat contrasting style as they banged in 13 goals besides keeping a couple of clean sheets with Kevin Nisbet, their new striker signing from Raith Rovers, making an impressive start with the club.
Both of these teams will have plenty of confidence and although Dundee are fancied by the bookmakers to have the better promotion prospects of this duo, they may have to settle for opening up their campaign with just a solitary point.
