Doncaster vs Plymouth Match Preview
Doncaster Rovers have been clinging onto the final spot in the play-off positions for some time this season. Although the five teams above them have been able to open up something of a gap in their fight for the automatic promotion spots, Rovers have been in the top six for some time but glancing nervously over their shoulders at the likes of Peterborough United and Blackpool who were attempting to chase them down.
After a run of three consecutive wins in their last three League One outings though, Grant McCann’s men have really seized the initiative in the race for the top six, with those victories helping them to open up a five point gap over seventh-placed Posh, McCann’s former club. After beating Bristol Rovers, Walsall and Bradford City in their last three games can the South Yorkshire side claim another three points here at 7/10 with William Hill.
Plymouth Argyle endured a dreadful start to the current campaign, failing to win in the league until the 6th October and languishing at the very foot of the division, prompting some fans to question to future of manager Derek Adams. The club’s hierarchy kept the faith in their Scottish boss though and he has delivered some better form in the second half of the campaign to lift his side up to 15th in the table.
Despite this, their safety is not yet confirmed. A run of four games without a win have seen the Pilgrims struggle to pull clear of the fascinating relegation battle that is ensuing in the bottom half of the table, with just six points separating Gillingham in 13th place from Rochdale in 23rd at the time of writing. Can the Devon outfit bounce back and pick up a much needed three points to ease their worries here at odds of 4/1 with PaddyPower?
We’re backing a comfortable win for the hosts here. Donny have started to show their quality in the last few weeks and have racked up seven goals in their last two home games with strikers John Marquis and Mallik Wilks continuing to threaten League One defences. Plymouth meanwhile have struggled of late, failing to score in three of their last four away games. That’s why we’re backing the hosts on the one goal handicap at 9/5 with PaddyPower.
John Marquis may be leading the Doncaster scoring charts this season but the goals have dried up for him in recent weeks with just one strike in his last ten games. Youngster Mallik Wilks has taken up the mantle though and scoring in each of his last three outings for Rovers, taking his seasonal tally to 14 League One goals. We’re backing the Leeds United loanee to add to his tally with another in this game.
