Doncaster vs Crystal Palace Match Preview

Doncaster Rovers have their sights set on promotion from League One this season. Darren Ferguson left the club last summer and was replaced by another former Peterborough manager in Northern Irish boss Grant McCann and although it took some time to find some consistency, the South Yorkshire side have been much stronger in recent weeks and lost just one of their last eight games in all competition to rise up to sixth place in the table.

This recent run of form has seen Donny rise into the play-offs and within touching distance of the automatic promotion spots but attention returns to the FA Cup this weekend. So far in this campaign, the Rovers have beaten Chorley, Charlton Athletic, Preston North End and Oldham Athletic already to reach this stage and now they’re out to claim a Premier League scalp in front of their own supporters at the Keepmoat Stadium at odds of 5/1 with Betfair.

Crystal Palace find themselves in the midst of a really tight bottom half of the Premier League table. The Eagles managed to haul themselves away from the bottom three last year after a really poor start to the campaign and as things stand in the current campaign their heads are just above the water line as things stand as they sit in 13th place, just three points clear of Southampton but with Fulham and Huddersfield Town starting to look adrift it seems there’s only one spot to try and avoid now.

Roy Hodgson’s men have already overcome League Two strugglers Grimsby Town and London rivals Tottenham Hotspur at Selhurst Park to reach this stage and they make the trip to South Yorkshire on Sunday afternoon in decent form having not lost in their last four games. Although survival in the Premier League is undoubtedly the main aim for the South Londoners they’ll be keen to avoid an upset here and secure a spot in the final eight at 8/13 with Betway.

We can’t see Hodgson rotating too heavily for this game. Not many opportunities will come around for Crystal Palace to progress to the latter stages of the FA Cup in an open tournament with several big teams having already been knocked out and although it will be a tough afternoon, Wilfried Zaha will carry the goalscoring burden on his shoulders for the Eagles and he’s bagged in his last two outings for the club, so we’re on him to score at any time again here at 7/4 with Zaha to score at any time @ 7/4 with Black Type.

Although we don’t see the Eagles slipping up to a team two divisions below them, this Doncaster side is strong in front of goal and possess League One’s most prolific striker in the shape of 18-goal man John Marquis. Rovers have racked up 14 goals in their last four FA Cup outings so we can see them getting on the scoresheet here making the away win and both teams to score bet look like good value to us at 12/5 with Ladbrokes.
