Derby vs QPR Match Preview
Derby lost ground on Middlesbrough in the battle for sixth as they were held to a 2-2 draw at Birmingham on Easter Friday. The point leaves them three behind Middlesbrough in seventh with a game in hand and two behind Bristol City having played the same amount. After this, they have away games at Bristol City and Swansea before a home fixture with West Brom to end the season.
At Pride Park, the Rams are unbeaten in their last five winning three of these including the previous two fixtures. They have scored ten times from their last two here having hit six against Rotherham and four against Bolton. Mason Mount is in good scoring form in front of his own fans with four in two while Martyn Waghorn has three in two.
QPR looked to have done caretaker John Eustace a great service in his hunt for the permanent role with a 4-0 defeat of Swansea but a 2-1 loss to Blackburn out will have set his hopes right back. The Rs are 17th and although not mathematically safe it would take some turn of events for their eight-point advantage to be reeled in. They face road trips to Derby and Sheffield Wednesday sandwiched between a final home game against Nottingham Forest.
Away from Loftus Road, the Rs are without a victory in their last nine though two of the last three have finished all square. The London outfit have failed to fire in four of their last five on the road and have a combined four from their last eight. A clean sheet in their last match on their travels will hopefully mark a turning point for a side who had shipped 15 from their five previous away ties.
It is hard to see past a Derby victory in this fixture though the odds do not scream out value and as such finding another bet seems the best approach. Derby have bagged ten in the last two at home and while QPR have tightened up at the back it would not shock us if they have thrown the towel in on the season at least on the road. Backing the Rams to get goals seems the order of the day and we like them to get over 1.5 team goals as the main bet and over 2.5 as a small value selection.
