Derby vs Man Utd Predictions
Derby County look set for a mid-table finish in the Championship this season. After losing out in the play-offs last year and then losing manager Frank Lampard to Chelsea, the Rams initially struggled this season under the guidance of a new manager in the shape of Philippe Cocu, but they’ve gained some more consistency since the arrival of Wayne Rooney and have risen up to 13th place in the table.
With a late season tilt at the play-offs unlikely at this stage following a four game winless run that was ended by a victory at Sheffield Wednesday over the weekend, the FA Cup may be enough to save Derby’s season. There’s no doubt that Cocu will want to prove his managerial abilities by leading his team to a famous victory over one of the country’s biggest clubs and the home win is available at 11/2 with bet365.
Manchester United are in strong form at the moment. Having come from behind to earn a handy point from an away draw with Everton in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon, the Red Devils have now gone eight games unbeaten in all competitions, taking them to within touching distance of the top four. What’s more, they remain in the hunt for silverware not only in the FA Cup but also in the Europa League after a win over Club Brugge in the last round.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men now appear to be playing with confidence despite the continued absence of stars such as Marcus Rashford and Paul Pogba through injury. Given the connection that he has with the supporters, the Norwegian boss will be desperate to add some silverware this season and United should want revenge after losing to Derby in the EFL Cup last year. The away win is available at 8/15 with Ladbrokes.
We’re sticking with the same bookmaker for our anytime goalscorer tip for this game too. Anthony Martial wasn’t on the scoresheet in the draw at Everton over the weekend, but the Frenchman did score in his three previous games for United against Watford, Club Brugge and Chelsea. The pace and deadly finishing of Martial should prove too hot to handle for the Derby defence – you can back him for a goal at any time at evens with Ladbrokes.
Although Derby have improved their form since Wayne Rooney’s arrival, we’ve seen the weaknesses in their squad in recent defeats against the likes of Bristol City and QPR. United on the other hand appear to be in great form at the moment and they racked up six goals in a very comfortable away win over Tranmere Rovers in the last round. We’re backing United with a one goal handicap at 7/5 with BetVictor.
