Derby lost 3-0 at Brentford in their last fixture before the international break to stretch their winless league run to five (though three of these have been drawn). The Rams sit 19th in the table and while expected goals data has them in 12th it ranks them bottom in defence.

At Pride Park, the Rams are without a victory in three this campaign having drawn with Swansea and West Brom and lost to Bristol City. None of their next five come against a team currently sitting in the top eight.

Cardiff went into the international rest with a second successive draw (1-1 with Fulham) and one that stretches their league unbeaten run to three. The Welsh side 13th in the table with eight points having two wins, two draws and two defeats from their first six.

Away from the Cardiff City Stadium, the Bluebirds have struggled picking up just one point which came in a draw at Blackburn. Their other two matches saw them beaten at Reading and Wigan conceding three goals on both occasions.

Neither of these sides have made great starts to the season and it is hard to be backing either with any confidence. A better angle is to take this game to have goals as Cardiff have seen eight from their three on the road while Derby have seen four of their last five in all competitions go over 2.5 while no side has conceded more big chances than the Rams.
