Denmark vs Gibraltar Match Preview
Denmark host Group D outsiders Gibraltar for their Matchday 9 clash desperate for points as they sit behind the pace-setters Republic of Ireland only for their goal difference with a game in hand. They’ve bagged an important 1-0 win over Switzerland back in October and built on it with a friendly win over Luxembourg, which should have Age Hareide’s men in a great mood.
Red and Whites have been very tough to beat in front of the home fans and we’ll surely see such character once again. They’ve beaten Georgia (5-1) beforehand too and last suffered a home loss back in October 2016, which makes going for an upset now just as wild a longshot as you’d suggest.
Gibraltar have seen ten consecutive losses over the past year and the 2-3 home loss to Georgia now behind them was only the second of those occasions where they actually found the net. They struggled to cope with the big guns and while they come to Copenhagen looking for their first points, it’s tough to see them make it happen.
Julio Ribas’ men haven’t been conceding as many goals as San Marino or Latvia, for example, but they’ve still seen 14 in the last four outings. This will be worrying and we expect the visitors motivated to put on more of a challenge this time around. However, it’s highly questionable if this will be enough.
Indeed, the goal difference could make all the difference for Denmark in the end and we’ll now back them to a comfortable win. However, the value we found in the market is the Highest Scoring Half – 2nd at 17/20 with William Hill, as we regularly see them scoring more goals later in the game.
With such hopes we’re in for a one-sided contest, we’re also hoping the strikers will get the spotlight. Christian Gytkjaer has been in fine form and he’d shine whenever he’d get a chance from the bench, which could be the case once again as we now back him to score last at 3/1 with Paddy Power.
