Cyprus vs Russia Match Preview
Russia have been in great shape through most part of their EURO 2020 Qualifiers campaign, kicking it off with a 3-1 loss in Belgium but recuperating quickly and now heading into their September outings on the back of a five-match winning streak – which sees them sitting just three points behind the Group I pace-setters.
Sbornaya outclassed Kazakhstan (0-4) and San Marino (9-0) in March and June, respectively, and while they haven’t been scoring as many goals recently – we’ve also seen them beat Cyprus (1-0), Scotland (1-2), and Kazakhstan (1-0) in front of the home fans. They will now surely be very motivated once again and Stanislav Cherchesov should have no troubles lifting their spirits.
It’s hard to call Cyprus unpredictable but they will hardly be happy with their seven-points tally after very solid challenges they’ve been putting on. They’ve beaten San Marino twice (with a total of nine goals scored) and held Kazakhstan to a 1-1 draw here, but we’ve seen them suffer narrow losses to Belgium (0-2), Scotland (2-1), and Russia (1-0) along the way.
Ran Ben Shimon’s men have been tougher to score against and we’ve seen great improvements over the years. However, it’s hard to see them completely shut down the visitors and this could make it hard to snatch any points, despite many predicting a tough contest to untangle at Neo GSP Stadium.
We will back Russia to turn it their way quite narrowly and we’ll back the visitors to win to Nil, which comes at 13/10 with bet365 and looks the best value in the market for those keeping faith we’ll see a winner on the day.
We should be in for few goals and slim margins could make all the difference. With that in mind, we’re now also backing Under 2.5 Goals FT at 4/5 with Paddy Power and hoping to see both sides perform well at the back and make it hard to create all-out chances.
