Crystal Palace vs Newcastle United Match Preview
Crystal Palace are now in real danger of being dragged into the Premier League relegation fight if their form does not improve – and they look well worth opposing against Newcastle.
The Eagles began the season so promisingly, riding high in the table, but are down to 14th and only six points above two of the three clubs in the drop zone with 12 rounds of matches to go.
Just as worryingly, Roy Hodgson’s side have won only one of their last 12 league and cup games and lost the latest three, with the lack of investment in the squad that has been called out by their manager seemingly having a negative effect on Palace’s trend of results.
They are, mind you, just a solitary point behind Newcastle, whose own form is not exactly sparkling either. The Magpies’ only league victory since Christmas came via a last-gasp winner at home to Chelsea when they had been outplayed, while they have struggled past a couple of League One sides to reach the fifth round of the FA Cup.
Away from home, Steve Bruce’s side can be either pretty solid or crumble like they did in the second half against Arsenal last week, conceding four goals in 37 minutes which will be a concern for their manager.
However, with little to choose between these clubs over the campaign as a whole, Palace look to be way too short here at odds-on, so having both Newcastle and the draw on our side at a similar price to a home win makes much more sense – and the visitors may just snatch all three points in what looks sure to be a low-scoring encounter (see stats above).
