Crystal Palace vs Everton Match Preview
Wilfried Zaha’s whereabouts will be a big source of interest in the build-up to this match after he was linked with a £65million move from Crystal Palace to Everton.
The Ivory Coast international, Palace’s star player, has reportedly been eager to leave Selhurst Park this summer to test himself on a bigger stage, but his desired move to Arsenal failed to materialise when a deal could not be agreed and they signed Nicolas Pepe instead.
Everton were the next club said to have come in for Zaha, offering Cenk Tosun and James McCarthy plus cash, and at the time of writing on Tuesday afternoon there was still time for a move to happen with just over 48 hours to go until the transfer deadline.
Palace were interested in midfielder McCarthy regardless of the Zaha situation and manager Roy Hodgson was keen to make further signings in addition to the captures of Jordan Ayew and Gary Cahill.
The Toffees, meanwhile, have been particularly busy in the market and there could be debuts here for Fabian Delph, Jean-Philippe Gbamin and Moise Kean, while Andre Gomes has joined permanently from Barcelona along with ex-Huddersfield goalkeeper Jonas Lossl.
Neither of these teams will be anywhere near the finished article on this opening weekend of the campaign given the changes that have taken place in their squads and as draws between them are commonplace, we can see another stalemate occurring here.
