Crystal Palace vs Colchester Match Preview
Crystal Palace host Colchester for their League Cup clash just days after their trip to Manchester, still looking for their first win this term amid a somewhat disappointing start to their Premier League campaign – where they were held off by Everton (0-0) and beaten by Sheffield United (1-0).
Eagles have been tough to score against but obviously struggled to make their mark in the final third, which will be a worry for Roy Hodgson despite keeping both Wilfried Zaha and Christian Benteke at the club. They will now hope for more against League Two rivals and getting it will be paramount.
Colchester have seen a disappointing start of their season as well, having failed to make the Promotion play-offs by a slim margin last term and obviously struggling to bounce from it – as they could not shake off the feeling of an unpredictable run through the pre-season and early League Two campaign.
The U’s have beaten Swindon (3-0) in 1st Round with confidence but this was also their only win so far, with draws against Port Vale (1-1) and Grimsby Town (2-2) as well as the losses to Plymouth (1-0) and Cambridge (1-2) on the records. They have seen great struggles for consistency on the road and this does feel even more worrying for the travelling fans.
We will back Crystal Palace to capitalize on it and we expect them to do so with confidence, as we go for another rock-solid defensive setup on their end and a Home win to Nil – which comes at 5/6 with William Hill and has seen support from many in the know already.
We don’t feel we’re in for as many goals as some would suggest, though, and we’ll now rather go for Under 2.5 Goals FT at 11/10 with Paddy Power. We have seen the Eagles tough at the back and we now hope to see them base their success on such a display again.
