Croatia vs Wales Match Preview
Wales continue their bid for another European Championship appearance, four years after their fantastic run in France, with the toughest test of their difficult Group E away schedule.
This qualifying pool has done Wales no favours in terms of the trips they face because besides World Cup runners-up Croatia, they must also travel to Hungary, Slovakia and Azerbaijan, none of which will be particularly easy.
It looks an open group and that is exactly how it has panned out so far, with all the teams bar Azerbaijan, who have lost their only match up to now, going into the end-of-season fixtures on three points.
The good news for Wales is that they have played only once and won 1-0 at home to Slovakia with a Dan James goal, whereas Croatia beat Azerbaijan in Zagreb but then showed they are vulnerable by losing 2-1 in Hungary.
Ryan Giggs has been the Wales manager for approaching 17 months now and it has to be said the jury is still out regarding how he is faring, with inconsistency the most apparent trait the Dragons are showing during his tenure.
The entirety of this qualifying campaign will tell us much about Giggs’ future prospects, but this individual contest is a very tricky one and we expect Luka Modric to end it in a happier frame of mind than his Real Madrid team-mate Gareth Bale due to a Croatia victory.
