Aston Villa haven’t really seen a dream start to their Premier League campaign and now have a busy schedule on their hands as they look to pick it up, taking on a trip to Crewe for their League Cup clash just days after hosting Everton on Friday evening – looking for a return to the winning ways after two losses.

Villans have seen a comfortable 3-1 loss at Tottenham (3-1) and struggled to bounce from it as they dropped important points to Bournemouth (1-2), where they fell behind early on and a second-half goal from Douglas Luiz proved nothing more than a consolation. Dean Smith now has to look for a quick fix and trip to Crewe could be a good place to start.

Crewe Alexandra have been in fine form through August, though, and they could prove a tougher nut to crack than some would suggest. They travel to Newport over the weekend in search of their fifth win in a row, after bagging league points against Oldham (1-2), Walsall (1-0), and Crawley (1-2) and beating Middlesbrough (on penalties after a 2-2 draw) in League Cup along the way.

Railwaymen have seen some very narrow clashes along the way but surely take great confidence from such a streak, as they keep scoring goals with Chris Porter leading the line. They will now hope for more of the same and while the Premier League rivals come as possibly the toughest challenge yet, we expect them in a good mood.
