Coventry City vs Rochdale Predictions
Coventry City are looking to build on their progression as a team on the field this season despite issues off the field continuing to persist. Fans’ frustration with the clubs owners were accentuated even further during the summer as the Sky Blues were forced out of their Ricoh Arena home once again, with Birmingham City stepping up to allow a temporary groundshare for the team after they spent their last spell out of the ground at Northampton Town’s Sixfields.
Despite this, Mark Robins continues to see his team play excellent football and after just missing out on the play-offs this season it’s fair to say that Robins, who will know this Saturday’s opponents well having been born in nearby Ashton-Under-Lyne, will have his sights set on a top six finish this year. After a seven game unbeaten run in all competitions, Cov currently occupy sixth place – can they extend that run with another win here at 4/6 with Coral.
Rochdale started the season with some fine results against the likes of Tranmere Rovers and Southend United, but have struggled to maintain consistency throughout the campaign. Although they did manage three consecutive league wins last month, they’ve since slipped back towards the lower reaches of the table after a run of three consecutive league defeats to Oxford United, Bristol Rovers and Ipswich Town.
Although their highlight of the season will undoubtedly have been taking Premier League giants Manchester United to penalties in the EFL Cup, the Dale need to start picking up some points in the league or they could be sucked into a relegation battle that’s almost non-existent in League One this season with Bury’s omission, Bolton’s points deduction and Southend’s dreadful form. Can Brian Barry-Murphy’s side bounce back with a win here at 17/4 with Bet365?
In our view, no they can’t. Coventry’s team has far more quality on paper and indeed they’ve been in the better form of late so you have to back them for three points here. Worryingly, Rochdale failed to score against non-league Wrexham last weekend and have also failed to find the net in two of their last three league games, so we can see them struggling to get on the scoresheet against the Sky Blues, who have kept three clean sheets in their last six in all competitions. The home win to nil is available at 15/8 with BetVictor.
Amadou Bakayoko is hoping to continue his development at Coventry this season and build on the seven goals he managed last term. The Sierra Leone born forward has been in threatening form of late, scoring twice in his last three League One outings. We fancy him to get the better of the visitors’ backline to score again here at 7/4 with Bet365.
