Connah’s Quay Nomads are looking to create history in the Europa League this summer. The Welsh club have never made it as far as the Third Round of qualifying in the competition and indeed, Welsh Premier League outfits on the whole have struggled to make an impact an continental level in the last few years, but the Nomads managed to stun the footballing world by overcoming Kilmarnock in the last round.

Despite losing at home, Andy Morrison’s men managed a famous 0-2 victory in Scotland last week and they’ll be hoping to take some momentum into this game so they can produce another shock and then hit the ground running when the league season gets underway again next month. Coming through the tie altogether is an extremely long shot and even winning this first leg, at home, is out at 14/1 with Coral.

Partizan Belgrade have a rather more successful record in European football. As one of the dominant sides in Serbian football, they’ve won the Serbian Super League a record eight times since it’s inception and they’ve been a regular in the Europa League in recent years, managing to reach the group stages four times in the last seven seasons, although never managing to progress into the knock-out phase.

After a steady is unspectacular pre-season, Savo Milosevic’s men started the competitive action over the weekend with a narrow away win over Indija to kick-off the league campaign. On their last visit to Wales, Parni Valjak ran out 0-4 winners having already won the first leg of their 2009/2010 tie against Rhyl by a thumping 8-0 scoreline. It might not be quite so dominant this time but this fixture should still result in an easy win for the visitors at 1/4 with Ladbrokes.

We’re backing the more experience Serbian side to have too much quality for their opponents here though. Connah’s Quay may have sprung a shock in the second leg of their tie against Kilmarnock but at their European home in Rhyl (their own ground does not reach UEFA standards) they fell to a defeat and against a much more experienced, fit and professional outfit, they should come unstuck here. Partizan to win with a one goal handicap is priced at 7/10 with Ladbrokes.

Of course we expect the Nomads to set up defensively here and as such it may take slightly longer than expected for the visitors to fashion a breakthrough. It’s worth noting that all five of the goals that were scored across the two legs of Connah Quay’s win over Kilmarnock were scored in the second half and we’re anticipating more goals being scored in the second half again here at 21/20 with Bet365.
