Columbus Crew vs New York Red Bulls Match Preview
Columbus Crew host New York Red Bulls looking to open the new campaign on a high and take revenge for Conference semi-finals loss to the rivals, where a 1-0 win here proved nothing more than a consolation with a troubled trip to New Jersey and a 3-0 loss at Red Bull Arena.
Crew have picked it up lately and won the Carolina Challenge Cup with two draws and a win, where they held off Chicago Fire (1-1), Charleston Battery (1-1), and beat Cincinnati (0-3). They will now want to show off once again and we expect them very motivated on Saturday.
New York Red Bulls have seen a Mobile Mini Sun Cup loss to Dallas (1-2) end their five-match unbeaten streak across competitions, after falling short of an MLS Cup Final with a loss to Atlanta United (3-1) – where they failed to make up for the thrashing 3-0 first-leg loss at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
Chris Armas’ men have had known struggles for consistency on the road and he’ll have to find a cure early in the new campaign, but doing so on their trip to MAPFRE Stadium promises to be no easy task. They haven’t snatched a win here in years and we don’t see them doing so now.
We will thus stick with a Home win here at 5/4 with William Hill, which seems great value seeing their rock-solid records at this ground and obvious ambitions to make it count early into the new term as well.
However, we feel Crew will have to outgun the rivals to secure the important points as we also back a Yes on Both teams to score at 4/7 with bet365. We’ve seen both sides scoring (and conceding) goals on the regular and this feels like buying money for old rope with hopes for an exciting contest.
