Colorado Rapids have endured a difficult few years in Major League Soccer. Despite being previous MLS champions, the Denver-based side have not even managed to qualify for the play-offs in the last couple of seasons. Anthony Hudson, in his first campaign in the job last term, couldn’t prevent the team from finishing bottom of the pile in the combined table but that did allow them to bring in Brazilian starlet Andre Shinyashiki in the superdraft.

Shinyasiki may have scored 51 goals in 83 appearances for Denver Pioneers in his college career but he has managed just one goal so far in another poor start to the season for the Rapids. Hudson’s men have managed just two draws so far and lost their other four fixtures, going down 1-4 in their last home fixture to Houston Dynamo at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park. DC United provided an incredible story in Major League Soccer last season. Despite struggling towards the bottom of the table for the majority of the season, the men from the capital started a rapid rise through the league table following the mid-season arrival of Manchester United and England legend Wayne Rooney, who led his side to some much improved form and an eventual play-off spot before they crashed out at the hands of Columbus Crew on penalties.
