Borussia Monchengladbach are strong travellers, but Cologne will have gained big confidence from a victory just before the international break and are backed to fend off their visitors this weekend.

As the stats above reveal, Gladbach have a 70% winning ratio on the road in 2019, albeit that stat is exaggerated slightly by a DFB-Pokal victory which opened their current campaign.

But Gladbach, who play their Europa League group opener at home to Austrian club Wolfsberger on Thursday, were well beaten on their own pitch by RB Leipzig last time out and have a fitness doubt over key defender Matthias Ginter here, while Jonas Hofmann and Lars Stindl are definitely ruled out.

Cologne were promoted last term after one season outside the top flight and they will have been relieved to get their first win on the board, 2-1 away to Freiburg.

The Billy Goats trailed at the break but Anthony Modeste equalised and Ellyes Skhiri, their Tunisian defensive midfield signing from Montpellier this summer, continued his excellent start to life in Germany by scoring the late clincher.

The bookmakers believe this is a very close match to call judging by their odds below, but Cologne are fancied to edge it with their self-belief sure to have sky-rocketed following that last-gasp success at Freiburg – and with star striker Modeste now off the mark for the season.
