Club Brugge vs Red Bull Salzburg Match Preview
An intriguing clash in the Europa League on Thursday evening when one of the most impressive teams from the group stage, Red Bull Salzburg, take on Club Brugge who drop down from the Champions League. These are two good teams, and both would have been expected to get further than this round but the competition, but the draw has placed them together.
Club Brugge managed just one win in the Champions League where eventually they were outclassed. However, if their fans are looking for a positive it is their defensive record in that competition. Despite winning just one game out of six they only conceded five goals from those games, and they will be looking to continue their good record here.
Red Bull Salzburg were hugely impressive in the group stage, winning all six of their games in a group that included both Celtic and Leipzig. While things will get tougher for them now that the ex-Champions League clubs come into play, there is no doubting that they were a force in this competition during the group stage and deserve a lot of respect going forward.
In what should be a close game here, the value may be with the draw. Red Bull Salzburg will not go all out attack here as they know the second leg in on home soil for them, they would happily take a draw from this one. Looking at Club Brugge they look as though they have the defensive capabilities to keep Salzburg quiet, but they don’t look capable of racking up a big score.
With that in mind we are backing the draw with William Hill which looks to be the value in the game at 5/2. We are also backing under 2.5 goals as we think these two will cancel each other out for much of the game, this is available with Coral at 10/11.
