Chile vs Peru Match Preview
No country has won the Copa America three times in a row since 1947 – but Chile are fancied to give themselves a shot at the hat-trick by reaching Sunday’s final.
Argentina were the last country to complete the treble and remarkably, if Chile were to emulate their neighbours at the weekend, they would do so on the only three occasions they have been South American champions.
There is a fair bit of work to do first, however, not least in the final against either hosts Brazil or Argentina, whom Chile have beaten on penalties in the latest two deciders of this competition following goalless draws.
But firstly they must get past Peru, who emerged triumphant from a quarter-final shootout against a Uruguay side that had looked strong contenders for the title during the group stage.
Chile, who now have Reinaldo Rueda in charge after Jorge Sampaoli led them to success in 2015 and 2016, were also involved in one of three quarter-final ties that ended 0-0, but did score six goals during the group stage as Alexis Sanchez looked more like his old self.
Manchester United will be desperately hoping their high-earning flop continues his good form and his team are backed to stay on course for what would be an incredible Copa America three-timer.
