Napoli’s campaign is in danger of ending most disappointingly and even against rock-bottom Chievo they cannot be trusted to win too decisively.

Having appeared booked for second place in the Serie A table for a few months now, Napoli’s main end-of-season target has naturally been to lift the Europa League trophy which, assuming you rank it higher than the Coppa Italia, would represent their biggest success for almost 30 years.

But that achievement may now have slipped away as a result of a 2-0 quarter-final first-leg defeat away to Arsenal which has left Carlo Ancelotti’s side with, if not a mountain to climb, then certainly a very difficult uphill struggle to keep their hopes alive.

The Partenopei have undoubtedly gone off the boil having not won any of their last three games and in particular their away form is poor of late (see stats above).

This should be a straightforward task against a Chievo team who have long been doomed to relegation, were docked three points in September for financial irregularities and have lost each of their last three matches either 3-0 or 4-0 to teams in the bottom half of the table.

Although Napoli should win, we can see them making fairly hard work of it, especially if they rest players for the return match against Arsenal, and Chievo may just be sufficiently inspired by the occasion to ensure they do not suffer another thumping.
