Sheffield Wednesday have generally been very solid defensively since their change of manager just before Christmas and are unlikely to be embarrassed at Stamford Bridge.

The Owls are waiting for Steve Bruce to move in at Hillsborough officially next Friday, having been appointed a few weeks ago as successor to Jos Luhukay but delaying his start date in order to fulfil pre-arranged family commitments.

His trusty lieutenants, Stephen Clemence and Steve Agnew, have been doing well in holding the fort, with Wednesday defeated only once in eight matches since Luhukay’s departure.

That loss was 3-0 away to in-form Hull, and otherwise the Owls have conceded only two goals in their other seven games, three of which they have won.

It’s still a huge ask for the Championship club to thwart Chelsea, who on Thursday tried to overturn a 1-0 first-leg deficit to Tottenham in their Carabao Cup semi-final (result not known at the time of writing).

We think Maurizio Sarri’s side will progress to the last 16 at the first time of asking, but not by a huge margin against a Wednesday team who could be difficult to break down.
