Chelsea vs Manchester United Match Preview
Manchester United have had the edge on Chelsea over the last 12 months and after back-to-back wins at Stamford Bridge, they could be worth backing to avoid defeat there again.
On the corresponding Monday night last year, albeit in the FA Cup rather than the Premier League, United triumphed 2-0. Then they made it a 2019 cup double in the Carabao version this season courtesy of a Marcus Rashford brace, including a stunning free-kick.
The Red Devils were hugely flattered by their 4-0 victory margin at Old Trafford on the opening weekend of the campaign, but their recent head-to-head dominance suggests Chelsea should not be odds-on to beat them this time.
Chelsea have also lost at home to the likes of West Ham, Bournemouth and Southampton since the November international break and manager Frank Lampard dropped world-record transfer fee goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga for their latest game, a 2-2 draw at Leicester.
Although the Blues have secured the signing of Ajax winger Hakim Ziyech for the summer, they did no transfer business in January whereas United brought in Portugal midfielder Bruno Fernandes and could give a debut here to surprise loan striker signing Odion Ighalo.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side are usually best away from home when they face the top teams, having won twice at Manchester City this term, but their overall record suggests they will struggle to make it three wins in a row at Chelsea even though they look good value to draw.
