Chelsea vs Man City Match Preview
Chelsea’s first season under Maurizio Sarri has not exactly gone to plan so far. The Blues may have looked like potential title challengers at the start of the campaign after going unbeaten in their first ten matches under their new Italian boss but since then things have certainly turned sour and as things stand the Blues have slipped down to sixth place in the table although they still have 12 games to chase down Manchester United for a return to the Champions League qualification spots.
The Blues have particularly struggled on the road of late, with their Europa League win over Swedish outfit Malmo last week their first away win in five games and that run did include a 6-0 mauling at the hands of Manchester City in the Premier League. With Sarri’s position in the dugout starting to come under pressure from sections of the Stamford Bridge fanbase, he will be all too aware of the importance of a win here at odds of 9/2 with PaddyPower.
Manchester City on the other hand are still in the hunt for four trophies this season. Given that Liverpool face Manchester United earlier in the day they may have lost top spot in the Premier League table by the time this game comes around but they will remain very much in the hunt to retain the trophy and they are through to the final of this competition, the Quarter Finals of the FA Cup and the knock-out stages of the Champions League.
Pep Guardiola and his side really seem to be turning the screw at the moment as they crank up the pressure on the Reds in top spot. Ahead of Wednesday night’s European clash against German outfit Schalke, the Citizens have won 12 of their last 13 games in all competitions and given that one of those wins was a thumping victory over Chelsea at the Etihad Stadium it’s hardly surprising that they head to Wembley as favourites on Sunday at 4/7 with Bet365.
We’re backing a comfortable win for the Citizens this time around once again. Chelsea have looked out of sorts defensively of late, shipping 13 goals in their last four games away from Stamford Bridge. City on the other hand appear to be going from strength to strength in front of goal which is hardly surprising given the firepower they possess through the likes of Raheem Sterling and Sergio Aguero. City to win with a one goal handicap is available at 7/5 with Bet365.
That man Aguero was on the scoresheet three occasions in that 6-0 win for the Citizens a couple of weeks ago and he has a fine record against the Blues in his time at the Etihad Stadium. That hat-trick took the Argentinian maestro’s goal tally to 23 in 30 appearances in all competitions so far this term and so we’re backing him to find the net again here at 19/20 with William Hill.
