Chelsea vs Huddersfield Town Match Preview
Pressure is starting to build on Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri and he urgently needs a decisive win against Huddersfield to steady an increasingly precarious ship.
Three consecutive away defeats without scoring a goal have raised questions from Sarri publicly about his Chelsea team’s mental attitude, the latest being an embarrassing 4-0 midweek reverse at Bournemouth.
At home, the Blues have been much better of late, winning four on the bounce and reaching the Carabao Cup Final. But you have to wonder, based on the manager’s comments, just how many of their current players truly have their heart in trying to continue the success the club have enjoyed for the last 15 years.
Still, they are in a much better situation than Huddersfield, doomed to relegation and whose appointment of new manager Jan Siewert had no immediate impact in a 1-0 home defeat to Everton.
It was perhaps a slightly better display by the Terriers, especially in an attacking sense, and Siewert set his team up a bit more offensively than his predecessor David Wagner.
This fixture will bring back happy memories for Huddersfield, whose 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge in May ensured a second successive top-flight campaign for them, but the most they can hope for this time is a consolation goal that slightly eases the pain of another defeat.
