Chelsea vs Bournemouth Match Preview
Eddie Howe continues to be linked with bigger Premier League clubs – but first and foremost he needs to prevent his Bournemouth side from losing six games in a row.
The 42-year-old is currently the second longest-serving manager in the English league at seven years and two months in charge – ironically, third on the list is Sean Dyche who replaced him at Burnley when Howe decided to move back south.
Arsenal, Everton and West Ham – he was favourite for the latter job at the time of writing – are reported to have been considering luring Howe from the south coast, where he has done brilliantly. But at present, he is in danger of steering the Cherries into a relegation battle.
Not since they were promoted to the top flight in 2015 have Bournemouth previously lost five consecutive league games, but that is their current sequence – and despite having enjoyed a few good wins against Chelsea, it now looks set to become six straight defeats.
Chelsea have lost three out of four in the Premier League themselves, including at home to West Ham, but they are generally pretty reliable at Stamford Bridge – certainly much more so than Bournemouth have been recently.
Frank Lampard’s side delivered qualification for the Champions League knockout stage in midweek and with only one competition to focus on now until the festive period is over, they can start cementing their top-four placing with a straightforward win against Bournemouth.
